We need to set an example that will resonate throughout history. So, we eat them all.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The consequences of not building enough housing
2·27 days ago200 million Americans in 1970, 340 million now. The dream of a nice house with a big yard is limited by space; space that also requires farmland, forests, parks, etc… We need dense apartment buildings, not houses.
30 million women voted for Trump. By choice. That’s part of the problem with the patriarchy: There is significant support from women. It needs to be addressed.
Blaming all the world’s troubles on old people does jackshit for solving anything. I get it, many of you need a scapegoat and an arbitrary “generation” to blame is socially binding for you. But why “boomers”? When they die off, will you blame Gen X next? Then the millennials as they age; age like ALL people. If you really want to find root cause generations, look into those Nineteenth Century folks and their penchant for wanton industry and slavery. Or Roman Empire people with their imperialist expansion and Christianization… Or just sit on your hands and gripe about grandpa…

Allow me to expand and clarify… Multiple people run for the same office within primaries. Some of them lean more left than others. You can support them by actually voting in the primaries (and especially in state elections), maybe even donating a few bucks or volunteer time as well. But you have to actually vote. You can also write to existing Representatives and lay out your concerns. Enough people do that on an issue, they’ll understand your concerns at least in terms of marketing. Or just poo poo everything. Write social media comments or mouth off at family dinners, both of which are meaningless gestures that change nothing.

32·3 months agoTheir policies are destined to trim an extra 50-100k Americans off Social Security each year, mostly the poors. I can’t prove that’s the intent, but it’s likely to be the outcome regardless.
The dead will get lost in various stats and old people are not popular nor respected, so it’ll be overlooked. I know it’s trendy to hate on the elderly but y’all need to understand you will be old yourselves soon enough and the cultural hate of the old will apply to you. You are neither different nor special. Get vaxxed, eat your veggies.
Yeah if we all hate the fascists but then condemn the Democrats, we will have the numbers and the shear power to accomplish nothing….
Seriously, if you don’t like the Democrats then fucking vote for Democrats who will steer the party left. That’s what the neo-cons, tea party, maga did to change the Republican Party (and change it they did).
This notion of a progressive third party is just a waste of time by self-absorbed clique-ish people who fancy themselves too good for “the mainstream”. Grow the fuck up and work with your fellow country-persons instead of this weird romantic fantasy of third party revolution by the superior left…
I look forward to your scathing responses and down arrows. Just know that the fascists don’t care what you think because in all likelihood, that down arrow is the most you are willing to actually do….

82·3 months agoFirst paragraph: yeah!
Second paragraph negates the first. You want change? Go for it. Yelling at old people ain’t gonna get you any changes. You gotta do it yourself. I remember in college, a long time ago, people in my age group lobbing the exact same complaints how grandma and grandpa didn’t make the world better for them. They complained, yet didn’t put much effort to changing anything, particularly in voter turnout. But if you look at the creeping tide of history, you’ll find things ever so slowly getting better in a bunch of different ways. The newer generations are never handed a utopia, but are certainly welcome to work at creating one.

438·3 months ago“Narcissistic bullshit” is intergenerational. In fact, it has nothing to do with age. So you’re going to hold Gen X “accountable”…? Geezus fuck off. Go hold the pre-WWII generation accountable, or 19nth Century people, or the Roman Empire era folks… This whole generational gripe-fest that some of you espouse is just aimless trendy nonsense. I don’t respect it.

288·3 months agoI’ve always thought the boomer/millennial whining was people of the exact same personality being insufferable to each other, just throwing down inane stereotypes while being emotionally immature and unable to be decent people.
Every age group has people like that, of course. I just get tired of having to watch it play out constantly online. So just shut the fuck up and do some good in the world. Instead of griping about people, show us something inspirational that you’ve done. Be the example of what you want other people to be.
