There’s plenty of countries (in Europe or elsewhere) where Americans are still welcome. Here in the Netherlands we have quite a American community and we like having them, as long as they’re not maga crazies.

I think that people with access to higher education who also have constant access to world news is bound to lead to people not wanting to put their kids through it. If you compare that to someone who barely has access to the internet and whose main focus is trying to feed their family and it’s a whole different situation. Humans need meaning in their lives and in western societies this has been waning for a while now.

My main issue with AI is that it’s so publicly available that people have started using it for the dumbest shit. Why do you need to constantly ask it stuff? People are truly being ridiculous about it, I have lots of coworkers who barely even write their own emails anymore… I’m even starting to wonder what they do during the day.

There’s great use cases for AI, especially in medicine and other fields. But for commercial use it’s basically useless besides being a gimmick.

I have (idle) hopes that most of the losses will fall on the people that created this mess. I know that’s not what happened in 2008 but one can hope. I’m not into stocks myself so I hope I would be safe when it happens but you never know, I was too young in 2008 to see/feel the full effects of it happening. Maybe I’d be screwed too. But I’d honestly take a few years of things being shitty over the nonsense what’s happening now. I got through covid, I’m sure this would be manageable too, especially since I live in Europe.

I honestly can’t wait for the bubble to pop. There are some very niche use cases where AI can provide actual benefits but overall it’s been such a slopfest. And companies keep trying to force it into everything, even when it makes their product infinitely worse. So damn annoying.

Yeah, that’s why I replaced the video card already. From what I’ve seen, the CPU is also doable if you’re careful but definitely a lot more fragile.
