People are trained to give their data to corporations and subscribe to everything costing them more money over the course of their lives. Selfhosting is simple nowadays particularly with projects like Umbrel out there in the market. If someone is a white collar worker under 40 “complicated” or “time-consuming” aren’t really viable excuses anymore. It’s something else.

Selfhosting is the best solution for everything except maybe email. I’m not sure the author of this article actually knows how to use computers.

Agreed. The genie is out of the bottle and there’s no putting it back in. Also the idea that the government of all things would be good at ‘regulating’ AI is idiotic. There is now a hot war technologically to prevent a hegemon from emerging in the AI space. Meanwhile the government is going to use it to surveil us and kill people on the battlefield. It’s unstoppable. I suspect that high tech devices will be regulated like guns in the next 5-10 years. We’re already seeing it with CNC machines and 3D printers.

Because it is too weak right now. It’s waiting for the US to make more mistakes. When the time is right it will take Taiwan and solidify control over the east and south China sea.

That you think China is different from every great power in history is the odd take. Power centralizes and seeks more power. It’s a tale as old as time. China literally modeled it’s rise after the Golden Era of American industrialization from the late nineteenth to early 1920s. America went from a backwater to a serious power in a generation. China did the same thing. It now plans to capitalize on it’s capitalism. (e.g. geopolitical dominance in the East and satellite control on the fringes of it’s empire.) China is a little America in everything but name.
