Valve says it still hopes to ship both devices “in the first half of the year.”

Cool excuse. If they were actually serious about releasing early 2026, they would’ve had these memory deals secured months ago. What’s the excuse for the new Steam Controller? I guess they can’t blame RAM for that one so they just didn’t mention it. lol

You underestimate how long custom hardware takes to produce. Supply chain issues hit the consumer well after they became a problem for manufacturers.

It’s likely Valve has been struggling securing RAM supply since well before the announcement, which is why the announcement didn’t come with a launch date or a price. Valve was noticeably responded, “we’ll see” when asked about those factors, because they were clearly still struggling securing capacity at a reasonable price.

The average person would rather be a negative nancy than try to understand what buisnesses actually have to deal with things.

That excuse might work for the Steam Machine, which can be produced without RAM and then installed later on. How would they even start production of something like the Steam Frame without having a supplier for RAM? Do they have all the components just gathering dust until they figure out how to obtain RAM? Or did they assemble the whole SOC without RAM only to send it again to the fabs just to solder the RAM into it? Or maybe they don’t have any of the of the components yet and are using RAM shortages as an excuse to justify other delays? These are questions that only Valve can answer, but you are free to think about which one is more realistic.

If RAM is the problem, then the Steam Controller would have been out by now. That is unless they plan to release all 3 products on the same day, which is absurd and something not even Apple does anymore.

          They can’t… hence the delay.

If RAM is the problem, then the Steam Controller would have been out by now.

This statement doesn’t make sense. The steam controller is an accessory to the Steam Machine. This would be like launching a PS6 controller before the PS6. Sure you could use it with PCs, but they are part of the same product launch.

That is unless they plan to release all 3 products on the same day, which is absurd and something not even Apple does anymore.

Why is that absurd? Reading their actual blog post, it really seems like that’s the plan.

It seems like you’re just grasping for reasons to be mad at Valve.

Ram skyrocketed many months ago… Hell, it’s been a several months since Samsung denied selling ram to… Samsung.
