In recent years, Pennsylvania regulators have tried to clamp down on roadway spreading of tens of millions of gallons of oil and gas “brines,” high-salt liquids that can be laced with toxic metals and radioactive material. The industry is pushing back.
It amazes me how collectively stupid we humans are. The “reuse” of industrial waste being promoted as a benefit is laughable. My earliest astonished reaction decades ago was learning about the tailings ponds that were holding all toxic liquid refuse from the oil sands in Alberta. And don’t get me started on fracking liquid. Even as someone with no chemical knowledge or understanding I will promise you that of the anywhere from 300 to 700 chemicals I’ve heard they use, a lot of that has to be a convenient way for chemical companies to dispose of their own waste products.
It amazes me how collectively stupid we humans are.
I don’t think “stupid” is the most accurate term, although I’ll admit it’s easier and more to the point than “short-sightedly selfish & greedy.” These assholes bulldoze their way through life assuming that like 99% of the previous challenges they’ve faced, forcing your way through usually works to get what you want in the end - who cares about all the destruction left in their wake as long as they got what they wanted, amirite? They do their damnedest not to think about how much of a bitch that remaining 1% of the time where bullying their way through doesn’t work can be.
While I agree with your thought, what I meant is that all of us are stupid for living in our current reality.
